Well, what a busy month off I have had. There is a new extension on the studio to house the new kiln and to store materials and work-in-progress from all the classes. It is nearly finished and gives a little extra space in the main studio.
I did manage to get a few days away with Mike (my husband), and we went to Yorkshire to see a motorbike race (for him) and a few art galleries (for me). Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield is a must to visit if you are a fan of Barbara Hepworth’s work, her plaster models are stunning. For those of you doing the plaster sculpting course, I shall be getting you to experiment with some of the techniques used by Hepworth to create some of her abstract work.
Also got to the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, fantastic sculpture library there. The Age of Innocence: Replicating the Ideal Portrait in the New Sculpture Movement exhibition was of particular interest; I was able to get up close to the portrait sculptures including one of a little girl I have seen at V & A on many occasions.
new kiln has been working overtime as I experiment with new glazes, had a few dribbly mishaps, better on test pieces than class work! I have finally finished the portrait sculpture of Georgia that some of you saw me working on.
Last week some of my work had been selected for exhibition with Pure Arts Autumn fair. ‘A Link With the Past’ won the sculpture prize and is now off to the Saatchi Gallery to be exhibited in a curated space on the top floor as part of the New STRARTA art fair. This is all very exciting for me to have my work shown at such a prestigious venue. STRARTA Art Fair
Venue: Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York’s HQ, King’s Road London SW3

The new class and workshop bookings are going well with more than double the bookings from last term. I have added some new courses and as people progress I shall be adding some more advanced sculpting techniques.
Looking forward to the new classes, new faces and old ones too
